The longest dachshund in the world, Pretzel is admired by all and the winner of a blue ribbon at the dog show. Only Greta, the little dachshund across the street, doesn't care for long dogs. About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg.
Margret Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany, where she met H. A. Rey when she was a young girl. After attending art school and training at the Bauhaus, she married H. A. and they moved to Montmartre for four years.
The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys and Find the Constellations.
We had a dachshund named Pretzel when I was young, maybe 1st grade or so. Something happened to him though, we didn’t have him very long, and my mom can’t remember what happened to him either. We think he may have died of parvo or something. We named him after the doxie in this book!
