In a timely post, the K-9 Solutions blog has an interesting post today about what can happen if you don’t supervise your dog. Check it out.
Here’s a list of things that could happen to your dog if you let them out and don’t supervise them:
- a wolf attacks your dog
- a hunter or bad person shoots your dog
- someone steals your dog
- your dog eats something poisonous
- a spider bites your dog causing him to swell up and then he can’t breathe
- your dog trips or falls, he breaks a leg and can’t make it home
- another dog picks a fight with your dog
- your dog kills another dog someone loves and needs
- a car hits your dog
- your dog gets taunted, teased, and hurt by kids who don’t know better
While dachshund owners are not likely (hopefully) to let their dogs wander, these bad things can still happen if a dog is left in the yard unsupervised.

Hi, just found your blog through the 31 day blog challenge. Great list post, I think this is something all dog owners need to be reminded of!
People need to think really carefully before letting their dog loose unsupervised or walking/hiking with their dog off leash. Even if your dog has a great ‘come,’ that still doesn’t stop other off-leash dogs from attacking or your dog messing with things like skunks, opossums or rattlesnakes.
Then again, it is a balance of considering the probability of threats/dangers with the joy the dog gets from being able to run around a bit! Highly trained, reliable dogs often do just fine off leash or with minimum supervision in low-risk situations.
cheers,
Mary H.

Hey Mary,
Thanks for stopping in! I think it’s cool that you found me through the 31 day thing. I hadn’t really don’t a list post before so I figured this was good chance to try it.
