Kody was given to me by Michal. Michal had Kody’s brother, Flex. A couple of months after we first adopted the dogs, Michal’s parents were visiting form the Czech Republic. One day in the car, they were having a debate about whether an eagle was really likely to attack a dachshund puppy. As they were having the discussion, an eagle swooped down and picked up a rabbit from in front of the car. At that point, they all realized it was certainly a risk.

So when I saw this story about an eaglet trying to get a dog, it reminded me of that. I like that the dachshund was the protector, or at least as best as he could be.

Trubee and Jurchison like to let their three dogs have reign of the backyard on nice days. One evening, Trubee came home to find Moby injured and cowering by the house, and his dachshund, Dicky, barking up a storm at the edge of the yard.

Trubee corralled the dogs and found a 31/2-foot-tall eaglet in the forested part of the yard where Dicky had been barking. The eagle hopped out into a clearing and was able to fly off a short while later.
