The last couple of weeks have been busy. My mom came for a visit and I've had a lot of other things going on. But, the training is going great. Here's an email I sent to the trainer. By the way, please don't try to imply any training techniques from this because I leave out a lot and am still trying to figure it out for myself.
I have to tell you the most amazing story.
My Mom is over so I haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd like to training. I read the "look at me" and "time outs" pdfs which are great, and we did some look at me with my Mom. But outside I've also been using the clicker. I don't know exactly what I'm doing, but I try to incorporate what I understand about "look at me" and what we did when you were here.
Well Kody stays on a loose leash now, which in itself is amazing, and he's so much more relaxed. He's great with my mom and loves to have another person around. He's been better than ever and loves the training.
Anyway, today we went outside to potty and then we stayed out for some training. I'm just still trying to get a good feel for what exactly I'm doing. It's going great, but I'm still not exactly sure of what to do and when in many cases. But we were out there and the neighbor dog comes around the corner to enter into the side yard we were in. The owner turned around knowing how Kody acts. Kody barked once, I clicked, and Kody came quietly over to me to get his treat! Then, he was fairly calm after that, like nothing had even happened! Then we went out to go to the side walk and the dog was walking in the distance, Kody looked, I clicked and Kody came to get his treat, he didn't bark at all.
He seemed totally not to care that much. He stayed on the loose leash with the help of clicks and treats as we walked.
This is amazing. After two days!!! I don't have words to tell you how amazing this is. Imagine how good it's going to be when I actually know better what I'm doing!!
I've gone from having serious concerns to thinking Kody may just be the greatest dog in the world!
Thank you so much,
Matt
