Anyone who is "owned" by a dachshund will surely agree that, as lovable and devoted the breed is, there is one annoying trait -- stubbornness. Dachshunds come to you when they feel like it, although, most of the time, they are like your shadows. It's not their fault. Dachshunds were actually bred to be independent and tenacious souls. After all, they are hunters. But there is hope, and the keywords to having a well-trained dachshund are patience, repetition, and tenacity.
This is an interesting short little article that gives advice on training a dachshund. I would just add that you'll probably need to train yourself before attempting this. Loose leash walking has been quite a challenge for us, I wouldn't have been able to do it without the advice of a trainer who uses positive methods.
