It's amazing the dachshund made it, maybe because he was able to lay in the shade of the people or because his fur protected him somewhat from the sun's direct rays. Ignoring the real tragedy here for a moment, it's a bad idea to take dogs on hikes in even moderate heat.

What a great picture! Gidget, a 7 year-old dachschund (she is a minature smooth dachshund) catches a piece of the "prey" as part of a lure coursing demonstration in the Coliseum at the Wisconsin State Fair.

I wish they would bring charges against the dog owners in these cases, maybe they still will. The law needs to reflect the fact that an owner very much shapes the behavior of their dogs. These dogs could have been raised to be social around other dogs and people.
