My home is not very dachshund friendly. You have to go up a flight of steps to get to the front door. And once inside there is a second very open spiral staircase that a dachshund could fall off of leading to a loft. After I got Kody I blocked that off and moved my office downstairs.
Going up and down stairs to take Kody out has bothered me for a while, so I decided to seek out a new home. Because of the economy I was able to get a larger, nicer place with a first floor entrance and my costs will stay basically the same.
I'm really excited about it and I never would have sought it out if it weren't for Kody. It just goes to show how dogs can make our lives better in so many different ways. When we look to make changes for the dog's sake, we often end up improving things for ourselves as well.
I remember being at the dentist office one time and the receptionist told me, "We used to have a dog but we had to give it up because out new apartment didn't take dogs." Aside from being heartless, there are a number of reasons this receptionist negatively affected her own life. My life is infinitely better not only for adopting Kody, but caring for him as well.
