Tonight we went out to go potty without treats. In front of our place there was a car parked that was not running with a group of people around it talking. I think someone moved into one of the places below, and it may have been them.
When we first went out, Kody started very quietly growling. I waited for him to stop. He didn't so we went back inside. He sat, and we did it again. The next time he growled once softly, so we went back inside and started again. The next time he didn't growl.
We went down the stairs and he was just fascinated by them. He wanted to meet them so bad, but I didn't think it was a good time. When I pulled him away he let out a little whine like, "awww!" When we were a few feet away he did a couple of small growls, but not much. When he was quiet I started playing with him to reinforce that people are a good thing, and it didn't take much.
We walked close by again and Kody was really interested in them and very well behaved. I realized that since Kody has never been this good I have no experience introducing him to people. I'm happy to say I'm going to have to figure that one out.
These changes are still overwhelming to me. Having a dog this well behaved is something I'm not used to, and honestly, I don't really know how to deal with it yet.
