It's a classic setup: A kid wants a dog, and the parents say no. But in Vienna artist Helga Bansch's I Want a Dog!, a little girl comes up with a creative way to get her wish - almost.

Lisa lives in an apartment that her parents say is too small for a dog. She promises to be as "good as gold." "That will be lovely," says her mother. "But our apartment is still too small for a dog." Wonderful illustrations show her hopefulness, frustration and anger until she comes up with a plan and posts signs in the park saying "Wanted: Dog to Borrow," offering walking, petting and playing services. An older man with a dachshund soon knocks on her door to accept he proposal, and both parties win.
