Working From Home with a Dog

My dog is a little sad every time I sit at the main computer desk to do work. I have to use this to do artwork or things where I need a bigger screen. I have a laptop and he likes that best because I can sit on the couch with him.

I've been trying to think of what I could do for him when I'm sitting at my desk, so recently I put his snuggle sack right next to me, and he has loved that. He gets it all situated so he can lie in it. It's a little small for him, though, so I may need to get another one.

I'm thinking of putting a dog bed there instead. When Kody was a puppy, I loved buying dog beds. The problem was that he thought of dog beds as great big chew toys and would destroy them. Now, I think he's outgrown that, but after dealing with fleas, I also know I want something that's easy to wash. I'd just like to be able to wash it about once a month anyway without having to take something apart or deal with covers and zippers. So I'm thinking about maybe a type of basket or something with a blanket in it so he can cuddle up in it. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

One thing I've learned is it's rarely a good idea to buy "dog beds" because one way or another you're going to be replacing it and they are expensive. Blankets, even dog specific blankets, are cheap at Costco, wash easily, and are very versatile.

Shopsy has a PetMate DuraBed (I think the medium) with an old comforter folded into three one way, then into three the other way. Fits perfectly and he loves to burrow into it.

To be honest the bed is probably redundant – he’s just as happy with a folded comforter on the floor, but this keeps it off the ground.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m thinking. I know Kody would do fine with just a comforter on the ground, but I kind of want something to keep it off the ground and in one place. He already pulls his dog blankets off the couch, bunches them up, and burrows in them.

I’ve always been amazed at that, by the way. That’s such a smart thing to do.
