As a sign of our training progress a gardener with a rake just started raking outside our slider and Kody just calmly watched him. I grabbed some treats to give him to reinforce the good behavior.

Approaching at highway speed was Jennifer and Chris Plott along with their 2 dachshunds and volunteers with Dakota Dachshund Rescue who were on their way to GermanFest to help raise money for the Rescue and race their dogs. The driver of the Chrysler Sebring Convertible had no way to stop but tried to avoid hitting the first car. They hit the Dodge Stratus while traveling around 60mph and airbags deployed in the Plotts car.

The driver of the Sebring had some injuries but her passenger and the other driver seemed ok. The dogs were scared but doing good. A good samaratain from Aberdeen stopped to see if anyone was hurt and held onto the dogs for the Plotts. After all this, the dogs went onto Germanfest and the one that raced still won 2nd place after all she went through.

This article has just about the most confusing description of a car accident I could possibly imagine. But suffice it to say, surprisingly nobody was hurt and one of the dachshunds went on to take 2nd place in a race at German Fest.

For the second year, it was partly about Dachshunds.

Diane Wade of Dakota Dachshund Rescue said the wiener dog races that were a highlight of German Fest “have just been a godsend to us.” They drew attention to the pens of rescue dogs ranging from pups to an elderly canine citizen of 14. After the races last year, some rescue dogs were adopted and others found foster homes, and Wade expected a similar result this year.

None of the rescue Dachshunds competed, but the locally owned critters who raced displayed the breed’s zest for life and the crowd’s enthusiasm to see it. Schmidt said one or two heats of weiner dog races last year expanded to more than two hours of racing Saturday.

All these events look so fun. I can’t wait until Kody and I can go and bring you back photos. I don’t know that there’s a German festival in my area, but I think there must be. My Mom is from South Dakota, but we’re Finnish, and I have been to Finn Fest.

But I always remember going to German festivals as a kid too, at least I think I remember that. I wonder if that’s because of the South Dakota influence?

The fourth annual Dachshund Derby and the first annual Corgi Classic were a success this year, with over $4,000 raised by participants to support the work of the Wyoming Dachshund Rescue in Wheatland. The races were held Sunday afternoon.

“People in town were extremely generous,” event organizer Linda Szymanski said.

According to Szymanski, the fundraiser helped get the Rescue “into the black,” and helped offset heavy veterinary bills incurred this year. The races brought in $1,000 more than last year’s event.

A total of 37 dachshunds and 14 corgis were in the races, with 16 total races being held during the day.

Racers came from as far as Colorado and Cheyenne, Szymanski said.

One of Krakow’s weirdest traditions, the annual Dachshund March (Marsz Jamników in Polish) took place this Sunday, with dozens of the iconic short-limbed dogs and their owners participating.

For the 15th year now, dachshund lovers from all over Poland have gathered in Krakow to show off their best furry friends. While some come just for the experience, many go as far as dressing up their sausage dogs in all sorts of elaborate costumes – and some are rewarded for their efforts. This year’s winner of the costume contest featured a coarse-haired pup dressed up as an Egyptian pharaoh, royally escorted by his human companions, who donned Arabic dress and even had a soundtrack for his majesty’s entrance. Honourable mentions went to dachshund police officers, doctors, sportsdogs, and one greying canine who had participated in every year of the march.

The county’s fastest wiener dogs waddled down a race track in Mission Valley Saturday morning trying to earn treats and beat the heat. More than 350 dachshunds dashed for 53 feet at a time, then sought shelter under umbrellas and shade tarps.

Temperatures pushed past 80 degrees while 16 finalists won the right to square off at Petco Park during the Padres game on Tuesday. The fastest eight will meet again in the championship Dec. 30 during the Big Bay Balloon Parade festivities.

How fun! I think I managed to get the link to the event right, but I’m not entirely sure as the page is written in Polish (I think). Let me know if I have it wrong. The featured story is in English, though.

It’s kind of a good feeling knowing that people halfway around the world are also having dachshund parades.

I did a little research and “jamnik” is the Polish word for dachshund.
