Trying a New Merrick Dog Food “Grammy’s Pot Pie”

Yesterday I was out with a friend finding good treats for Kody to get when a guest comes over. While I was there, I remembered I had literally no dry food left. Luckily, this place also sells Merrick food. However, they didn’t have our usual flavor, “Turducken“, which is what Kody’s eaten ever since puppy food.

Kody Waiting for his Lunch to Cool

Kody looks up longingly to where he knows his delicious lunch is cooling. It takes five minutes for Kody’s lunch to cook, and during that time, he doesn’t really care about it. He will stay in bed even though I know he can smell it. But it also takes five minutes for it to cool, [...]

The Latest in Dog Cooking

I talked about it yesterday, but I’ve come to the latest stage in making it easy to cook for Kody and thought I’d post about it. This is how a make one of Kody’s two meals a day. The other meal is dry kibble fed out of a Canine Genius. Kody is about 15 pounds, [...]

Two Days After the Root Canal

Wednesday, February 17th 6:50pmMatt

Kody is doing great today and he’s more playful than he’s been since he fractured his tooth. It’s so great to see him asking to play and then being able to play so animatedly. Post Root Canal – Pre Crown Food If you’re a regular reader you know that I cook Kody lunch every day [...]

Improvements: Quick Cooking for Dogs

Sunday, January 31st 1:31pmMatt

If you are a regular reader, you know I cook lunch for Kody every day, and he gets Merrick Turducken kibble out of a Canine Genius in the evening. I don’t feel that cooking for a dog is necessary by any means, but it just makes me feel good that he’s getting “real food” and [...]

Tennis Court Progress and Kody’s Brilliance

Thursday, January 28th 11:20pmMatt

Kody is really starting to like our tennis court work. He’s learning that when bikes or people or even other dogs walk by it’s okay. Today a dog walked right by the tennis court, and although he did walk that way and bark, it wasn’t very intense. Then he came over to me when I [...]

Funny Scent Reactive Barking

Wednesday, October 21st 9:26pmMatt

I said in a recent post how I opened the door one day and Kody let out a jarring howl/bark that rattled my nerves. Right before I started writing this we went out so Kody could relieve himself, which he did. Then a stranger walked right next to him, almost touching him, and he was [...]

Two Good Walks and a Canine Genius

Tuesday, October 20th 8:34pmMatt

I’m really proud of myself for picking up on this attention situation with Kody. By rewarding him for paying attention to me, we now have darn near perfect walks. It’s really amazing, but also a little scary how frighteningly difficult it was to get here (and we still have more to do!) When I first [...]

Cooking for Dogs Made Easy: Rice Cubes & Beef Cubes

I can’t help but feel a little embarrassed to tell this story. Like many other people, I cook for my dog. Just the morning meal, but I still do it. I’ll admit, I definitely have the crazy gene that all of us who cook for our dogs have. Yes, I’m concerned about additives and hormones, especially for a small dog. And we’ve had stomach issues in the past I’m not eager to repeat, so I guess this might help. But honestly, I don’t think my cooking is significantly better than the high quality dog food Kody eats, but he loves it so much I just can’t stop.
