Excerpt

Oliver has the most interesting coat color I’ve seen in a dachshund. He’s mostly reddish-brown with a white blaze on his chest, and caramel highlights on his face, legs and belly. He’s a delight on leash, and has the “up” command down pat, but will still need some obedience training to learn additional basic commands. Oliver is definently a lover, and gives plenty of kisses and smiles. He would also be great around kids ages 5 and up, as he is patient and gentle. Oliver is low to medium energy, so to keep him in shape he could be taken on regular walks, to the dog park, or have another dog at home to play with. If you’re interested in Oliver check out our website or come by for a visit.

Comment

I thought this picture was very interesting. Doesn’t this dog look like a mix of some sort? His shape is basically right for a dachshund, but somethings a little off.

I know dachshund genes tend to be very dominant, even Kody looks exactly like a dachshund even though he’s only 75%. His coat is just a tiny bit different. Looks like that’s the case with this dog too.

A University of Georgia veterinarian’s necropsy of a Hull man’s puppy determined the dog was killed by another animal, and not stabbed as the owner first thought, Madison County Sheriff Kip Thomas said Monday.

A deputy responded July 23 to a home on William Wilson Road, where a man said he found his roommate’s 6-month-old dachshund dead in the carport.

Kristin and her dogs Portia, Jack, Tabby, and Delia contacted me to tell me about an annual event hosted by DREAM rescue in Atlanta, Georgia.

HOWL-O-Weenie 2009

The website says:

Likely date is October 3 in Cabbagetown Park. Start planning your costumes, training for the races, and getting those tail wagging muscles in shape for the contests!

There are so many great photos from last year I couldn’t help but include a few, so I’ll let you know now there’s also a video of the event at the end of this post.

I’m not sure but I think this one might be Hugh Hefner and Holly Madison. Or maybe Dolly Parton. It made me laugh because in one of the pictures Dolly’s boobs fall out.

Photos: Pat Thomas

The website has a link to over 800 pictures from last year’s event. They are very lucky that photographer Pat Thomas takes all these wonderful high quality photos. I can understand why she’s motivated to take pictures at this event, though.

I love this John Deere tractor!

The event also includes dachshund races.

At first I thought this was Peter Pan and Tinker Bell. But I think the one on the left is Captain Jack Sparrow, and the one on the right might be Peter Pan.

A brilliant gold fish.

Hey, these are the salt and pepper shakers I just posted about in fun products!

And finally, the video:
